LAWRENCEVILLE -- In celebration of "Be Kind to Animals Week," Gwinnett Humane Society has planned a day of fun for your four-legged friends.
The 18th annual PAWfest is the largest community awareness, education and fundraising event for the Gwinnett Humane Society. Voted as one of the "Best Local Festivals" in Gwinnett Magazine's Best of Gwinnett issue, organizers of the event strive to educate the public on pet-related issues while celebrating the human-pet bond through a variety of activities and on-site demonstrations.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville. Activities include an animal wellness clinic with low-cost vaccinations, rabies shots and microchipping by WellPet Humane, Frisbee and agility demonstrations, dog contests and a silent auction and raffle.
Leashed, vaccinated dogs can also participate in the Pack Hike, a scenic three-mile hike around Tribble Mill Park. There will also be a one-mile Puppy Pack Hike route for those whose paws aren't quite ready for the three-mile route.
The PAWfest Pack Hike begins at 9:30 a.m., with on-site registration at 8:30 a.m. Registration can also be completed online in advance at www.firstgiving.com/gwinnetthumane. Prizes will be awarded for the highest fundraiser.
