Gwinnett Daily Post
Regions 8-AAAAA and 7-AAAAA consider themselves among the state’s best, if not the outright best, in soccer. While that topic is always up for debate, we’ll soon know who is better between those two Gwinnett regions.
The inaugural Region 7-AAAAA vs. 8-AAAAA All-Star Senior Soccer Games is scheduled for May 21 at Dacula, pitting the two regions head-to-head in a pair of games. The girls matchup begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 8. “It is our hope that this will be a game we will play for years to come,” North girls soccer coach and athletic director Mark Karen said. “We want this game to be such a great event that our younger players look forward to the prospect of playing in the game when they are seniors.” Soccer What: Region 7-AAAAA vs. 8-AAAAA All-Star Senior Soccer Games When: May 21; girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 8 p.m. Where: Dacula H.S. Noteworthy: All proceeds will benefit Georgia Special Olympics Seniors who were selected to the all-region teams automatically have a spot in the all-star games, while the region’s coaches will make other nominations to fill out the remaining spots. Players will wear their own school’s jerseys — 7-AAAAA players will wear their dark, away uniforms and 8-AAAAA players will wear their white, home uniforms. The regions’ coaches are asking for a $10 entry fee for player and a $5 donation for fans’ admission, with all proceeds going to the Georgia Special Olympics.More like this story
