LAWRENCEVILLE —For the second straight time, the Gwinnett Braves ended their eight-game homestand sitting in their clubhouse.

Rain arrived at Coolray Field about 4:30 p.m., canceling both the G-Braves’ and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees’ batting practices and once the tarp hit the field, it never left.

At the game’s scheduled 7:05 p.m. start time rain barely fell and the sun peeked through the clouds, but the grounds crew never removed the tarp with rain moving northeast from Atlanta and 40 minutes into the delay, team officials announced the postponement.

No makeup date was immediately set, but the two teams next face each other in Pennsylvania for a four-game series Aug. 8-11 and will likely make up the game then.

With the rainout, the G-Braves (14-11) finish a rough homestand that saw them win just one of the seven games played, including dropping four straight to Columbus. They lost the final two games entering Tuesday.

Following today’s day off, Gwinnett hits the road for eight days for its one trip through Rochester and Pawtucket in a pair of four game series. They return to Coolray Field on May 13 against the Toledo Mud Hens.

Tuesday’s scheduled starter, lefty Mike Minor (1-1, 1.75 ERA), will start for the G-Braves on Thursday at Rochester.
