Lions to honor college-bound athletes

Peachtree Ridge will hold a ceremony Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. in the high school’s commons area to honor its athletes who have signed with college programs.

The group includes six soccer players: Baillie Burmaster (Oklahoma State), Melissa Lay (Western Carolina), McCall Gardner (Memphis), Mitch Kupstas (Brown), Chris Cook (Westminster) and Katie Lyle (Erskine).

It also features swimmers Bryce BeVier (Tennessee), Bradley Faxon (Southern Florida) and John Simmons (Georgia), track and cross country athletes Matt Weickert (Mississippi State) and Kelly Arsenault (West Georgia, also for tennis) and lacrosse players Austin Crowe (Piedmont), Cory Hall (Berry) and Alex Crawford (Tennessee Wesleyan).

Baseball players Jared Walsh (Georgia), Preston Johnson (Winthrop) and Brett Polachek (South Georgia) also will be honored, as will wrestler Michael Chapman (Duke), golfer Victor Choi (Towson) and tennis player Mary Jeremiah (Oklahoma State).
