The Next Stop plans expansion
SUWANEE — For more than three years, The Next Stop has sought to enhance the lives of adults with mild intellectual disabilities by providing social, recreational and learning programs.
The program has grown from 10 charter members to 69 registered members who meet from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in two rooms in the Suwanee Sports Academy in Suwanee. Due to space limitations, the program can only serve 24 members each afternoon, and a waiting list has been in place for more than a year.
Recently, the board of directors of The Next Stop contracted with Joel Wilson of Gwinnett Remodeling to expand facilities. A third room has been rented, and construction will remove a wall to join two rooms and build a residential kitchen.
This expansion project will meet the goals of increasing membership and also providing a more home-like cooking environment for the members.
