Prep Roundup: Blue Devils score three in seventh in victory over Bears

NORCROSS -- Norcross scored three runs in the seventh inning in a 9-8 comeback win over Mountain View on Wednesday.

With the bases loaded and two out, Sam Mireless hit a single that went under the centerfielder's glove and rolled all the way to the fence, allowing three runs to score for the Blue Devils (5-5).

Alejandro Muniz went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Andrew Gray also had two hits and two RBIs. Neil Reifenberger and Chris Raasch each added two hits and an RBI. Spencer Neely (1-1) pitched one inning to get the win.

Alex Brock had three hits and scored two runs for the Bears (7-6). Losing pitcher Garry Gwaltney (2-1) struck out four in 62/3 innings.

BASEBALL

GAC 17, Avondale 0

AVONDALE ESTATES -- Winning pitcher Hayden Nelson also had a big day at the plate as Greater Atlanta Christian beat up on Avondale 17-0 in four innings Wednesday.

Nelson (1-0) pitched three shutout innings and went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Will Parker was 3-for-4 for the Spartans (8-3, 3-1). Ross Wood was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Duluth 5, Mill Creek 3

DULUTH -- Alex Raffensperger hit a three-run homer to lead Duluth to a 5-3 win over Mill Creek Wednesday.

Zack Erwin (4-1) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts. John Clark added a double and an RBI for the Wildcats (8-3, 3-2).

Brookwood 7, Shiloh 3

SNELLVILLE -- Jacob Beauchamp drove in the go-ahead run in a four run seventh inning as Brookwood beat Shiloh 7-3 Wednesday.

Brandon Agar (3-0) pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs, three hits and striking out five.

Lucas Sims and Nick Moore each went 3-for-5 for the Broncos (8-3, 2-0). Trey Hagey was 2-for-5.

South 12, Archer 1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Austin Williams went 3-for-5 to lead South Gwinnett to a 12-1 win over Archer in six innings Wednesday.

Mason Hart, Jamie Suggs, and Ryan McDowell each had two hits for the Comets (6-3, 2-0).

Keith Chaney (1-1) pitched a complete game, giving up no earned runs and four hits to go with two strikeouts.

Franklin Co. 6, Lanier 3

SUGAR HILL -- Austin Wood hit a home run in Lanier's 6-3 loss to Franklin County Wednesday.

Trenton Little was 2-for-3 for the Longhorns (1-10, 1-9). T.J. Richardson also knocked in a run. Matthew Ramsay gave up three earned runs in three innings to get the loss.

Central 11, Berkmar 6

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Dillon Mackel went 3-for-3 with a homer in Central Gwinnett's 11-6 win over Berkmar on Wednesday.

Dustin Hays drove in four runs, while going 2-for-4 for the Black Knights (8-4, 1-1). Taylor Fields added two hits and an RBI. Grant Thiel (2-1) gave up five runs in five innings to get the win.

Buford 7, South Atlanta 1

ATLANTA -- Jake Burnette hit a two-run homer to lead Buford to a 7-1 win over South Atlanta on Wednesday.

Brian Clark went 3-for-3, while Adam Hampton added two hits.

Sam Clay (4-0) gave up one hit and struck out 10 hitters in six innings to get the win.

Grayson 14, Dacula 4

LOGANVILLE -- Mike McHugh had two hits and three RBIs as Grayson beat Dacula 14-4 in five innings Wednesday in Region 8-AAAAA play.

Taylor Allum and Clay Ardeeser each had two hits and two RBIs for the Rams (8-4, 1-1).

Juan Flores went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Austin Miller went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Ardeeser (2-1) pitched a complete game to get the win, allowing three earned runs and striking out nine.

Blake Zierten (1-2) was the losing pitcher, but also went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI for the Falcons (4-7, 0-2). Matt Pogue hit a homer and Steven Williams added an RBI.

GIRLS GOLF

Mountain View squeezes by Norcross

DULUTH -- Mountain View edged out Norcross 108-110 Wednesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Kaylee Hennely shot a 51 to lead the Bears (3-6).

Alex Vereen and Camille Streeter each shot a 55 for the Blue Devils.

Dacula defeats Winder-Barrow

DACULA -- Dacula knocked off Winder-Barrow 94-100 Wednesday at Trophy Club of Apalachee.

Kriesten Nowell led the Falcons with a 45.

Brookwood edges past Parkview

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood beat Parkview 90-93 Wednesday at Summit Chase Country Club.

Taylor Allen shot a 40 to lead the Broncos. Ashley Pilgrim's 43 was the low round for the Panthers.

Mill Creek beats North

SUWANEE -- Mill Creek took care of North Gwinnett 82-99 Wednesday at Bear's Best.

Katie Plummer led the Hawks with a 40. Macy Stucke fired a 49 for the Bulldogs.

BOYS GOLF

Broncos holds off Parkview

SNELLVILLE -- Patrick Kendrick shot even par to lead Brookwood in a 156-161 win over Parkview Wednesday at Summit Chase Country Club.

Kendrick finished with a 36, while Ted Moon shot a 1-over 37 for the Panthers.

Dacula takes down Winder-Barrow

DACULA -- Dacula beat Winder-Barrow 167-187 Wednesday at Trophy Club of Apalachee.

Brad Stevens shot a 3-over-par round of 39 to lead the Falcons (4-0). Tate Gardner added a 40.

Justin Donaldson and Zach Martin each shot 45 to led the Bulldoggs.

Pearson leads Mill Creek over North

SUWANEE -- Trey Pearson shot 1-over-par to lead Mill Creek over North Gwinnett 163-165 Wednesday at Bear's Best.

Pearson finished with a 37, while Ricky Moore shot a 40 for the Hawks. Blake Watkins shot an ever par round of 36 for the Bulldogs.

Healy shoots under par in Norcross win

DULUTH -- Zach Healy fired a 1-under-par round in Norcross' 170-185 win over Mountain View Wednesday at Berkeley Hills.

Healy finished with a round of 35 to lead the Blue Devils, while Blake Padilla shot a 42 to lead the Bears (3-6).

GIRLS TENNIS

Mill Creek 4, Westminster 1

ATLANTA -- Mill Creek swept the doubles matches in its 4-1 win over Westminster Wednesday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Nela Handac and Allison Weaver picked up a point, as did the No. 2 team of Cailey Stevens and Lauren Atkinson.

Michelle Yau and Madison Hahn won in singles for the Hawks (13-1, 3-0).

Norcross 3, North 2

NORCROSS -- Norcross remained unbeaten in Region 7-AAAAA Wednesday with a 3-2 win over North Gwinnett.

Cameron Williams and Vooha Vellanki won singles matches for the Blue Devils (11-2, 4-0). Lindsey Holmes and Maria Lakey won the No. 2 doubles match.

Taylor Clark in singles for the Bulldogs (10-5, 1-3), while Chelsea Koch and Isabel Balsavage won the other doubles match.

Collins Hill 5, North Oconee 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill took care of North Oconee 5-0 Wednesday.

Erin Ensley, Jillian Estes and Abbie Wehr swept the singles matches for the Eagles (9-3).

Lina Tibavinsky and Megan Gorham won in doubles along with the other team of Cassie and Maddie Owensby.

BOYS TENNIS

Brookwood 5, St. Pius X 0

DECATUR -- Brookwood swept St. Pius X 5-0 Wednesday at the DeKalb Tennis Center to improve to 12-0 in 2011.

Randy Phillips, Mark Guentert and Will George won the singles matches for the Broncos (12-0).

Drew Wendel and Matt Jones won in doubles along with the other team of Brandon Mills and David Brown.

North 4, Norcross 1

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett improved to 3-1 in Region 7-AAAAA after beating Norcross 4-1 Wednesday.

Taylor Buchholz and R.J. Clement won the singles matches for the Bulldogs.

Mark Hardy and Ryan Duncan, plus Josh Winey and Forrest Huffman won the doubles matches.

North beat Mill Creek by the same score Tuesday. The points came from the same four winners.

Collins Hill 5, North Oconee 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill swept North Oconee 5-0 Wednesday in non-region play.

Chris Clark, Tyler Kallgren and Evan Tadvorac won the singles matches for the Eagles (10-2). Alec Rahmanian and Jake Inderrieden won the No. 1 singles match, while Marcus Maloney and Kevin Pfeiffer took care of the No. 2 singles match.

Grayson 4, Shiloh 1

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson took care of Shiloh 4-1 Wednesday.

Matt Bolt and Parker Evans won singles matches for the Rams. Austin Collier and Trevor Gobbel won at No. 1 doubles, while Bolu Fawole and Jakeem Booker earned the point at No. 2 doubles.

Dominque Guelce was the winner for the Generals.

Hebron 3, George Walton 2

MONROE -- Hebron beat George Walton 3-2 Wednesday in a match that was suspended because of darkness earlier this month.

Jerod and Josh Beck won the singles matches for the Lions (8-1). Jack Griffin and Paul Stinespring won their doubles match.

North 10, Meadowcreek 0

NORCROSS -- Caroline Gualdoni scored three times to lead North Gwinnett to a 10-0 win over Meadowcreek Wednesday.

Brooke Borgles added two goals for the Bulldogs (8-2). Taylor Burns had a goal and two assists. Abbi Edwards, Abby Grest, Maggie Grayson and Jordan Goldring each scored once. Abigail Groth had two assists. Goalie Michelle DeMarris earned the shutout.

BOYS SOCCER

North 2, Meadowcreek 1

NORCROSS -- North Gwinnett held off Meadowcreek 2-1 Wednesday.

Luis Alonso and Roberto Hinojosa each scored once for the Bulldogs (6-4).

Parkview 1, Grayson 0

LILBURN -- Jack Falle earned a shutout and scored a goal in the shootout as Parkview beat Grayson 1-0 Tuesday.

Falle made two saves in the shutout for the Panthers (1-0). Pete Charter, Santiago Gubitosi and Zachary Welch also scored in the shootout.

GIRLS LACROSSE

North 13, Campbell 3

SMYRNA -- Ashleigh Clark and Lauren Aycock each scored four goals in North Gwinnett's 13-3 win over Campbell Wednesday. Katie Verret added three goals for the Bulldogs (5-6).

BOYS LACROSSE

Parkview 14, Grady 9

LILBURN -- Paul Vance scored seven goals to lead Parkview in a 14-9 win over Grady Wednesday.

Connor King added three goals for the Panthers (3-7). Rohan Mahadevia made 10 saves.

North 22, Campbell 1

SMYRNA -- Adam Printz had six goals and four assists to lead North Gwinnett to a 22-1 win over Campbell Wednesday.

Ten players scored for the Bulldogs (2-5). Matt Palmer added five goals, while Ronnie Adams and Dan Constance scored twice.

Norcross 6, Grayson 3

NORCROSS -- Cam Coval scored three times in Norcross' 6-3 win over Grayson Wednesday. Davis Diamond had two goals, while Charlie Rhea scored once for the Blue Devils (2-6).
