Wesleyan’s Jan Azar was announced Thursday as the Metro Atlanta Girls High School Coach of the Year, leading a list of locals who were honored by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. Azar led the Wolves to their fourth straight state championship last weekend and their eighth in 10 games.
The club also released its all-metro teams, which featured a total of 16 Gwinnett players. Nine of those players were girls. The all-metro girls team featured Buford’s Andraya Carter and Kaela Davis, Norcross’ Diamond DeShields and Wesleyan’s Holli Wilkins as first-team selections. North Gwinnett’s Lexie Brown made second team and Wesleyan’s Grace Leah Baughn was on the third team. Wesleyan’s Jordan Frazier, Brookwood’s Katie Mallow and Greater Atlanta Christian’s Kristina Nelson were on the honorable mention list. GAC’s Malcolm Brogdon was on the all-metro boys first team and Norcross’ Chris Bolden made the third team. The honorable mention list featured Berkmar’s Yonel Brown, Norcross’ Josiah Moore and E. Victor Nickerson, Collins Hill’s Saah Nimley and Buford’s T.J. Shipes.More like this story
