LILBURN — It was a game that was equal parts wild and equal parts ugly. With 18 combined errors and about as many hits, Greater Atlanta Christian held off Berkmar 16-13 Friday. Down five in the seventh, the Spartans (5-2) rallied to score seven runs. The Patriots (1-5) loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Jesse Gordon missed a grand slam to end the game.
Jordan Dudek went 4-for-5 to lead the Spartans. John LaMay went 3-for-5 with four runs scored. Patrick Schultz was also 3-for-5. Eric Smotherman was the winning pitcher. Gordon went 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs for the Patriots. E.J. Cheatham went 3-for-4 with two doubles. BASEBALL Mill Creek 3, Hillgrove 0 POWDER SPRINGS — Mill Creek pitchers Brian Stillwell and Cody Pugh combined to shutout Hillgrove 3-0 Friday. Stillwell (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three hits to go with two strikeouts in four innings. Pugh pitched three perfect innings and fanned four to get his first save for the Hawks (4-1). Tim Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Aryan Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored, and a stolen base. Central 12, Peachtree Ridge 6 LAWRENCEVILLE — Dillon Mackel went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Central Gwinnett to a 12-6 win over Peachtree Ridge on Friday. Taylor Fields (3-0) struck out six in five innings to get the win. He allowed two earned runs. Fields also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Black Knights (6-1). Andrew Ellis and C.J. Cronic each went 2-for-4. Duluth 5, Central 3 LAWRENCEVILLE — Evan Dumas went 4-for-4 with an RBI to lead Duluth over Central Gwinnett 5-3 Friday. Zack Erwin (2-1) allowed one earned run in six innings to get the win. He struck out seven and allowed two hits. He also had two hits at the plate. John Clark struck out one to get his second save. Alex Raffensperger drove in two runs. The game was a make-up from Wednesday and the second game of a doubleheader for the Black Knights (6-2). Andrew Ellis (2-for-3) and Louis Valdes (1-for-3) each hit homers. Losing pitcher Grant Thiel (1-1) allowed three earned runs in six innings. North 8, Northview 7 SUWANEE — North Gwinnett held off Northview 8-7 Friday. Zach Nolan and Alex Kimble each went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs (4-2). Connor Jenkins (2-for-2) also drove in two runs. Seth Bancroft and Ryan Hagan were both 2-for-4. Apalachee 3, Mountain View 1 WINDER — Apalachee held off Mountain View 3-1 Friday. Beau Blair had two hits and a solo homer for the Bears (6-2). Alex Brock added two hits. A.J. Moore (1-1) was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs and two hits in three innings to go with four strikeouts. Wesleyan 13, Eagles View Academy (Fla.) 3 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wesleyan went down to Florida and beat up on Eagles View Academy on their home field 13-3 Friday. Gardner Heaner had three hits, a homer and two RBIs for the Wolves (5-1). Alex Thykeson added four hits, while Mason Colquitt had two hits and three RBIs. Will Anderson picked up the win, allowing three runs in three innings to go with three strikeouts. Jamie Stark fanned four in four scoreless innings of relief. Hebron 16, Riverside Military 1 GAINESVILLE — Hebron hit three homers in a 16-1 win over Riverside Military in three innings Friday. Jordan Hillyer (2-for-2) hit a three-run blast, while Seth Gower (2-for-2) and Danny Lockhart (2-for-3) each hit two-run shots for the Lions (7-1, 2-0). Justin Bagley was 2-for-2 with two doubles. Killian Hill 11, Praise Academy 0 LILBURN — Killian Hill had nine hits in an 11-0 win over Praise Academy in five innings Friday. Alex Attebery (2-for-3) hit a homer and drove in four runs for the Cougars (7-0). J.R Henson also went deep. Kyle Bailey (3-for-4) added a triple and two RBIs. Austin Parles (2-0) pitched a one-hit shutout. He struck out seven and walked two. GIRLS SOCCER Collins Hill 1, Northview 0 JOHNS CREEK — Collins Hill and Northview could not find the net in regulation. But both teams had plenty of success in the shootout. The Eagles edged out Northview 1-0 by winning the shootout 8-7. Goalie Calli Star earned the shutout for Collins Hill (5-2) with help from midfielder Lindsay Leonardo. Archer 1, Central 0 LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer scored midway through the first half and goalie Kristen Craig made it stand as Tigers beat Central Gwinnett 1-0 Friday. Megan Wilson knocked in the goal with an assist from Chrissy Holland. Craig finished with seven saves for Archer (4-1-2, 1-1). Brookwood 3, Grayson 1 SNELLVILLE — Brookwood won its second straight Region 8-AAAAA match by beating Grayson 3-1 Friday. Allie Vrtachnik, Chelsea Turner, and Kim Fincher each scored goals for the Broncos (5-3, 2-0). Washida Blackman added an assist. Mill Creek 4, Dacula 1 HOSCHTON — Four different players scored goals for Mill Creek in its 4-1 win over Dacula Friday. Lauren Tanner, Tatum O’Keefe, Cortney Emmert, and Alex Giles all had goals for the Hawks (7-1). Ruva Chimedza scored the lone goal for the Falcons (6-2). Parkview 2, South 0 SNELLVILLE — Parkview beat South Gwinnett Friday 2-0. Insha Qari and Alex Ober scored goals for the Panthers. Asha Wright and Alyssa Borrillo combined in the shutout. North 8, Tift Co. 0 SUWANEE — Taylor Burns scored four goals to lead North Gwinnett over Tift County 8-0 Friday. Caroline Gualdoni added two goals and two assists for the Bulldogs (6-2). Andrea Herrera had a goal and an assist, while Michelle DeMaris also scored. Abbi Edwards, Abbi Grogh and Brooke Bortles each had one assist. Peachtree Ridge 5, Aiken (S.C.) 1 AIKEN, S.C. — Peachtree Ridge went across the border to beat up on Aiken (S.C.) 5-1 Friday. Olivia Hall and Phoebe Palmer each scored two goals for the Lions (4-2). Emily Edmond added the other. Hebron 1, Riverwood 1 DACULA — Hannah Wilbanks made 15 saves as Hebron played Riverwood to a 1-1 tie Friday. Sarah Boyd scored the goal for the Lions (6-2-1). GAC 5, Buford 0 NORCROSS — Chelsea Gandy-Cromer scored twice and added an assist as Greater Atlanta Christian beat Buford 5-0 Friday to push its unbeaten streak to eight. Rachel Garcia, Kelsey Pelletier, and Anna Douglas each added goals for the Spartans (7-0-1, 3-0). Killian Hill 2, Shiloh Hills 0 LILBURN — Killian Hill won its fifth straight to start the season with a 2-0 victory over Shiloh Hills Friday. Tylie Wesley and Paige Williams each scored goals for the Cougars (5-0), while Williams added an assist. BOYS SOCCER Brookwood 1, Grayson 0 SNELLVILLE — The Brookwood defense, led by keeper Matt Mayer, picked up its fifth shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over Grayson Friday. The Broncos (6-2, 2-0) scored in the second minute when Adrian Aladi knocked in a goal with the assist from Chase Varhol. Because of the good defense in front of him, Mayer only had to make two saves. GAC 8, Buford 2 NORCROSS — Denzel Clark scored four goals to lead Greater Atlanta Christian 8-2 Friday. Stewart Abrahart added two goals for the Spartans (8-2). Kyle Rees and Max Gomas each scored once. Archer 3, Central 2 (PK) LAWRENCEVILLE — Steven Taberes scored the winning goal as Archer needed a shootout to Central Gwinnett 3-2 Friday. The Tigers (7-4-1, 1-1) won the shootout 4-1. Zach Wachholz scored both goals in regulation. Mill Creek 4, Dacula 1 HOSCHTON — Taylor Scalera scored four goals to lead Mill Creek to a 4-1 win over Dacula on Friday. Nick Muntean, T.J. Hoppines and Brandon O’Toole each had an assist for the Hawks (6-1-1). Parkview 2, South 0 SNELLVILLE — Goalie Jack Falle made six saves to lead Parkview 2-0 shutout of South Gwinnett on Friday. Jose Diaz and Raymond Muro scored the goals for the Panthers. Hebron 4, Riverwood 2 DACULA — Hebron scored four goals in the second half to come back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to beat Riverwood 4-2 Friday. Cole Redman scored twice to lead the Lions (6-1-2). Austin Pinto added a goal and an assist, while Chris Austin netted the other tally. Brian Oduro and Kevin Sharpton each had an assist. Peachtree Ridge 4, Aiken (S.C.) 3 AIKEN, S.C. — Jeremy Rector had a hat trick to lead Peachtree Ridge to a 4-3 win over Aiken (S.C.) Friday. Juan Herrera added the other goal for the Lions (7-0). Chris Code had three assists. North 6, Tift Co. 1 SUWANEE — Andres Pena scored three times to lead North Gwinnett over Tift County 6-1 Friday. Roberto Hinojosa scored twice for the Bulldogs (4-4). Luis Alonso added the other goal. Providence 4, Pinecrest 1 CUMMING — Providence, ranked No. 1 in Class A, knocked off Pinecrest 4-1 Friday. Matt McGlamery and Brent Hansen each had a goal and an assist for the Stars (5-2, 3-0). Will Lowndes and Caleb McQuaig scored the other goals. GIRLS TENNIS Towns Co. 4, Hebron 1 YOUNG HARRIS — Hebron lost to Towns County 4-1 Friday. Anneliese Vorpahl and Mini Schulte picked up the Lions only win in the No. 1 doubles match. BOYS TENNIS Hebron 5, Towns Co. 0 YOUNG HARRIS — Hebron swept past Towns County 5-0 Friday. Wes Mendoza, Jerod Beck, and Josh Beck won the singles matches for the Lions (4-1). Kyle Donatucci and Cole Maness took care of the No. 1 doubles match, while Paul Stinespring and Justin Starner won the No. 2 doubles match. GIRLS LACROSSE Johns Creek 19, Mill Creek 4 JOHNS CREEK — Mill Creek fell to Johns Creek 19-4 Friday. Alexis Ordini scored twice to lead the Hawks (4-2). Kelly Skoglund and Abigail Fitler added the other goals. Emily Hallberg had an assist. BOYS LACROSSE Wesleyan 13, GAC 11 NORCROSS — Harrison Cheeley scored five goals to lead Wesleyan over Greater Atlanta Christian 13-11 Friday. Jake Miller added four goals, while Connor Breslin added two goals for the Wolves (4-1). Colin Stone and Miles Loughlin each scored once. Duluth 8, North Atlanta 5 ATLANTA — Duluth knocked off North Atlanta 8-5 Friday. Erik Brewer scored four goals for the Wildcats (4-1), while Bryan Hodges added two goals. Peachtree Ridge 21, North 7 SUWANEE — Michael Ruffcorn scored six games to lead Peachtree Ridge to a 21-7 win over North Gwinnett Friday.
