NORCROSS — The Georgia Department of Transportation has delayed repairs to a sinkhole on the Jimmy Carter Boulevard entrance ramp to Interstate 85 northbound, saying further review of its underlying structure is necessary.
The sinkhole, found Tuesday about 4:30 p.m., is temporarily covered with a steel plate, allowing traffic to safely use the onramp, GDOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said. The 7-foot-deep hole was originally schedule to be worked on tonight.
Additional review of the drainage structure and utilities located under the ramp must occur before the permanent repair is made, Pope said.
While the ramp is passable, officials are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible using the detour route of Jimmy Carter Boulevard to Oakbrook Parkway to Indian Trail-Lilburn Road to I-85 North.
