SNELLVILLE -- A February traffic arrest in Snellville will cost Georgia Tech alum and New Orleans Hornets guard Jarrett Jack one game, the NBA announced.
NBA officials said Wednesday that Jack, 27, of Atlanta, was suspended for pleading no contest to reckless driving in Gwinnett.
Jack was initially charged with DUI, speeding and failure to maintain lane after a Snellville police officer paced his Mercedes going 66 mph in a 45 mph zone on Feb. 20, police have said. The arrest happened about 4 a.m. on U.S. Highway 78 at McGee Road.
NBA officials ruled Jack will miss the first game of the 2011-12 regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play. NBA owners and players are embroiled in labor disputes that threaten to delay the season with a potential lockout.
The former Yellow Jacket is credited with helping Georgia Tech reach the NCAA Finals in 2004. He left for the NBA after his junior year in 2005, when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets. He's since played for four other teams, coming to New Orleans in a November trade with the Toronto Raptors.
