DULUTH -- The city of Duluth's property tax rate will remain at 5.991 mills for the second consecutive year.
At a special called meeting Monday evening, the Duluth City Council unanimously voted to maintain the millage rate that will support the new budget that goes into effect July 1, according to a news release.
The city's upcoming budget of $15.6 million represents a 6.3 percent decrease from the current budget. The city faced a decline in revenue for the third year in a row and used reserve funds to balance the budget, the news release states.
Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris said property tax revenue is down about 9.13 percent from last year.
"The council was very aware of the depressed economy," Harris said. "City staff and the council worked very hard not to increase the tax burden on our citizens."
The adopted budget will be available online Friday at www.duluthga.net.
