Duluth to hold annual 'Brown Bag Lunch Series'

DULUTH -- For five years, the city of Duluth has hosted the "Brown Bag Lunch Series" during the summer. This summer the tradition continues.

From noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday, the city holds free lunchtime events at its amphitheater in Town Green.

"This has been going on every summer and we just want people to come out and enjoy Town Green," said Jayne Madigan, event coordinator. "We wanted to have something during the week so business people and just the community as a whole, can enjoy a free event."

This Thursday, Magic Debbie Leifer's "Interactive Comedy Magic and Mindreading" is the featured attraction.

Leifer has been a magician, comedian and family entertainer for more than 25 years. She has entertained former president, George Bush and has had seven appearances on Fox-TV. The magician plans to dazzle, delight and mystify attendees with her colorful, interactive comedy magical illusions.

Along with the magic show, the water fountain will be up and running so kids are encouraged to bring their swim suits and trunks.

"Just come out and have a good time," Madigan said. "With the recession, this could be like a small, free vacation."

The city will continue these free lunchtime shows through July. On the 14th there will be an "Upbeat Party Rock Concert" -- an event that will feature a local Atlanta solo-performer who will perform upbeat party rock from the '50s.

On July 28 the series will present "Quite A Catch, Comic, and Educational Juggling." This will be hosted by Ron Anglin, who is a full-time performer and former Army helicopter pilot who taught high school for nine years. He has taken his act around the country entertaining young and old with his juggling and comedy. He will be entertaining his audience with his act "Quite a Catch!"
