GRAYSON -- City resident Katie Mitchell, a broker for a real estate company, has been appointed a new council member for the city.
The vote occurred Monday night, as the Grayson City Council unanimously named Mitchell to fill the unexpired term of former council member Marcus Hinton who recently resigned because of job-related issues. The term will expire Dec. 31.
Also, Josh Chastain, account manager for the Cintas Corporation, was appointed by the Council to succeed Michelle Couch on the city's Downtown Development Authority. Couch resigned her position because she moved out of town. Her term expires Oct. 1, 2013.
In other business, the Council:
- Reset its millage rate public hearings because of a delay in receiving the tax digest. New dates are July 11 (8 a.m. and 6 p.m.) and July 18 at 7 p.m. (regular council meeting).
"The millage rate will not go up, but the budget will be tight," Mayor Jim Hinkle said.
Approved several changes to the Grayson Zoning Ordinance, including items related to portable signs; planned unit developments; and off-street parking for shopping centers.
Made some revisions to the Code Enforcement Board Ordinance, including some definitions listed in the law.
