BAYAMON, Puerto Rico -- Two late goals and a pair of ejections ended the Silverbacks' hopes of picking up a win on the road Sunday in a 3-1 loss to Puerto Rico.
Atlanta's Lucas Paulini was sent off in the 83rd minute for his second yellow card of the match, and coach Jose Manuel Abundis followed shortly for arguing with the referees. Down 2-1 on the scoreboard and a man on the pitch, Atlanta (1-9-2, 5 points) gave up the third goal that put the game out of reach.
The contest was tied for the entire second half until Josh Hansen scored on a counterattack to put the Islanders up 2-1 in the 81st minute. David Foley found the net after the ejections to give Puerto Rico (5-4-2, 17 points) its final goal.
The Islanders' struck quickly after kickoff to begin the match. Jonathan Fana volleyed home a cross from Foley past Lawrenceville native Jimmy Maurer for his sixth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.
Atlanta tied the game up on its only goal of the night with a penalty kick from Paulini in the 44th minute. After a foul was called on Puerto Rico's Yakiel Perez in the box, Paulini struck a shot past goalkeeper Ray Burse for his first professional goal.
