SUWANEE -- Suwanee's Town Center will turn into a version of Turner Field on Saturday when it hosts "Game on the Green" -- an outdoor telecast of the Atlanta Braves road game against the San Diego Padres.
The event will feature the Braves game shown on a large screen as well as other interactive games and activities to participate in.
Suwanee public information officer Lynne De Wilde said the Braves asked Suwanee to host the event and the city jumped on board. "We do a lot of events at the center. But this is a unique way to bring the community together," she said.
Atlanta Braves Executive Director of Marketing Gus Eurton, who lives in Gwinnett, said that this is not the first time the team has worked with the Suwanee community, but it is the biggest event they have collaborated on. He said that "Game on the Green" is a way to give back to the diehard fans in Gwinnett.
"Instead of having fans come to the game, we can bring the game to them," Eurton said. "It's exciting that we can give back to them for supporting the Atlanta Braves games. We hope that they come out to show the community their support."
First pitch is at 8:30 p.m. and will be telecast on a 25-foot-by-25-foot outdoor screen at Town Center Park. Pregame festivities begin at 6:30 and will feature a free concert by Full Circle and appearances by the Atlanta Braves Tomahawk Team -- official cheerleaders for the Atlanta Braves -- and Heavy Hitters Drumline, which entertains fans at Turner Field. The Braves and Gwinnett Braves mascots will also be on hand.
There will also be a free KidZone play area with T-ball and fastpitch inflatable games, an obstacle course, giant slide, and jump house. There will also be prize giveaways and local merchants will also be on hand.
Food and beverages, including beer, will be available for purchase, but alcohol may not be brought into the park.
