"The Color Purple" will be returning to Atlanta's Fox Theatre through Sunday.
The musical is the story of a woman named Celie, who finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world. The inspiring tale is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker.
Nick Manos, president of Theatre of the Stars, said previous performances have been known to draw in a large spectrum of people, so the theater anticipates a good turn out this year.
"We have a long history of repeating shows that have caught the audiences fancy. For example, we routinely play 'Annie,' and 'Beauty and the Beast,' and 'Cats,' and 'Stomp' -- shows that have registered with the Atlanta audiences in a great way, and we think 'The Color Purple' is exactly that type of show, that has a loyal following and people are interested in it and they'll come see it."
Manos said "The Color Purple," which has been performed on Broadway, is great for families and repeat audiences.
"I think that familiarity of the well known stories, the, I don't want to say the predictability, but the comfort factor in knowing how the show is going to turn out and what parts of it you're going to like, can become such a challenge for many families because they want to make sure they are spending time together, they're spending time with something that's enjoyable and they can look forward to."
Tickets are available and range from $20 to $75 and are available at www.theaterofthestars.com.
