1970s back in full swing with Aurora Theatre's groovy concert

The Aurora Theatre will host a flashback to the 1970s with its “Swing Night” concert at 8 p.m. June 25 and will feature music by The Metro Jazz Club.

“It’s part of a series of concerts that we’ve done for three years and our partner in this is a 17-piece band called The Metro Jazz Club,” said Al Stilo, Aurora Theatre Director of Sales and Marketing. “Folks have really enjoyed this concert series, and oftentimes concerts will focus on prominent vocalists from The Aurora Theatre and the Atlanta area.”

The theater encourages guests to dress up in their favorite ’70s wear from outrageous bell-bottoms and fringe to mood rings and pet rocks for the chance to win a prize for best outfit.

The Aurora Theatre has been planning the summer flashback concert for a about year.

“We put it in the summer because we think people are more inclined to want a more relaxed event,” Stilo said. “It’s going to be more fun and loose, and with the contest in the mix, I think people are going to want something more loose and fancy free.”

The Metro Jazz Club will pay tribute to the great ’70s recording artists such as Stevie Wonder; Chicago; Earth, Wind and Fire; and more favorite bands for the chance to relax.

The concert will also feature music by recording artist Eric Moore, who is best known for his roles in Travelin’ Back and Big River at Theatrical Outfit, and Christmas Canteen and Once this Island at the Aurora Theatre.

The concert is open to the public. Tickets are available for $18.

“It’s a lot of fun and I think for this particular one it will bring in a more younger crowd because crossing out of the big name jazz and swing tunes and focusing on the rock and pop tunes will bring in all generations of folks, but especially the younger generation,” Stilo said.
