The sixth annual George B. Maloof 7-on-7 Passing Tournament, named in honor of the longtime Georgia high school coach, will begin this Friday at St. Pius with a handful of Gwinnett teams.
Brookwood, Mill Creek, Norcross and Parkview are part of the 16-team field, joining other top programs like Waton, Blessed Trinity, Roswell, Hillgrove, Cartersville, Flowery Branch, Northview and Chattahoochee.
The event was started by two of the coaches in this year's field, St. Pius' Paul Standard and Norcross' Keith Maloof, George's youngest son. Both Keith Maloof and Standard graduated from St. Pius in 1980 and played for George Maloof. Up until he retired after last season, Kevin Maloof (George's oldest son) also brought his Dacula team to the annual passing tourney at St. Pius.
"This has been a great tournament featuring many current college players," Standard said. "This year's tournament will feature some of the best high school players in metro Atlanta."
