Kill the Irishman (Blu-ray) (R)

Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars

Disc: 4 out of 4 stars

Close to a dozen supporting/character actors from other mob movies and TV shows show up on the margins doing what they do they best, but it is the relatively unknown Ray Stevenson as Danny Green who steals the show. A man with no absolutely fear (and some say no sense) Green challenged the Italian and Jewish organized crime hierarchy in early ’70s Cleveland. Taking a huge artistic gamble, co-writer/director Jonathan Hensleigh mixes real stock news footage in with his own period piece grit and the mix is lethal. The accompanying hourlong documentary about the real Green is interesting enough but pales in comparison to the film.
