G-Braves, Redmond stifle Indy

INDIANAPOLIS — Behind a dominant effort from starter Todd Redmond, the Gwinnett Braves blanked Indianapolis 2-0 on Monday at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

Redmond (5-6) threw six shutout innings and helped Gwinnett (34-30) remain in a tie for first place with Durham in the International League South Division.

Jason Heyward, who joined the G-Braves today on a rehab stint, doubled in the first inning and Mauro Gomez brought him home on a single to center.

Heyward batted third and went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and a walk.

Gomez, who drove in the first run of the game, was one of two G-Braves with a multi-hit game. Gomez finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ed Lucas was 2-for-4 with a run and a double.

Jose Constanza, who was named IL Player of the Week on Monday, improved his hitting streak to 11 games with a 1-for-4 performance.

The Indians only managed six hits and Corey Wimberly had two of those.

The G-Braves finish up their four-game series against the Indians tonight at 7:05. Gwinnett will send out RHP Julio Teheran (6-1, 1.98) vs. RHP Sean Gallagher (1-8, 7.06). The game can be heard on the home of the G-Braves, 550-AM/102.9-FM WDUN.
