SNELLVILLE -- A Thursday evening fire caused extensive damage to a Snellville home, displacing a large family, officials said.
Gwinnett County firefighters arrived at the home on the 4400 block of Lee Road at about 6:15 p.m. in response to several 911 calls, finding heavy smoke and flames showing at the two-story structure, spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said.
The blaze, believed to have started in the garage, quickly spread to the main portion of the home and forced firefighters outside the home. It took crews nearly two hours to bring the fire under control, Eberly said.
A family of seven residents were displaced, but declined Red Cross assistance, Eberly said.
No injuries were reported.
While the cause of the blaze remained under investigation, bystanders reported "hearing a pop" just before flames began emanating from the garage.
