Cops looking for man using fake money

LILBURN -- Lilburn Police continue to try to track down a man accused of passing off approximately $1,000 in counterfeit bills at a local pharmacy.

The suspect allegedly used 10 fake $100 bills in two separate purchases at the CVS Pharmacy at 3900 Lawrenceville Highway, using the faux cash to purchase a pair of pre-paid debit cards, Lilburn police spokesman Capt. Ben Haynes said.

Using tag numbers from the believed getaway vehicle to identify a suspect, officials issued arrest warrants earlier this week. That man, police said, turned out to not be a viable suspect.

"I think we have evidence that he was not even in the state at the time," Haynes said. "The name we initially got using a tag number and VIN and all that stuff, the car had actually been sold about six months ago."

The crime was committed on April 3 between 4 and 5 p.m., according to police. Anyone with information is asked to call Lilburn police at 770-921-2211.

"It looks like we're going to have to do some more homework on who it actually was," Haynes said.
