Gwinnett Daily Post
Gwinnett area golfers Andy Shim and Sloan Shanahan swept the individual titles Tuesday at the Georgia PGA Junior Championship at Eagle's Landing Country Club.
The victories by the 16-year-olds earned them spots in the 36th Junior PGA Championship, slated for Aug. 2-5 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Shim, a Duluth resident, took the first-round lead with a 69 and closed with a 70, good for a 5-under par 139 and a four-shot victory over Atlanta's James Garrett Bernhardt. Fellow Duluth resident Spencer Cokely (71-80) tied for sixth overall in the boys division and Suwanee's Brett Barron (74-79) tied for 12th. Barron also tied for third in the boys 13- to 15-year-old division.
Shanahan, a Suwanee resident, shot 73 and 75 to finish at 4 over, just one shot ahead of runner-up Rinko Mitsunaga of Roswell. Darby Gentry of Braselton (84-90) was 10th overall in the girls division.
In the girls 13-15 division, Norcross golfers Alissa Yang (95-98) and Gracie Henderson (98-95) tied for third.
