NORCROSS -- A rezoning request for property located at 3415 Medlock Bridge Road in Norcross was denied Monday, with Community Development Director Chris McCrary outlining several reasons for concern.
The applicant was requesting permission to build an automotive emissions inspection station on the site, which already features a Shell station.
McCrary said that stormwater and parking issues, buffer compliance and an incompatibility with the city's 2030 Comprehensive Plan were all concerns that he and his staff had with respect to the rezoning.
City council members voted to deny the rezoning request, and the applicant was not on hand Monday to address the mayor and council.
New police officer sworn in
Police officer Marcus Sales was sworn in to the Norcross police department during Monday's city council meeting, the newest addition to chief Dallas Stidd's department.
Sales thanked mayor Bucky Johnson and Norcross residents for welcoming him to his new job, stating that he gets a "warm feeling" when dealing with residents and business owners and is grateful for the chance to work in Norcross.
