LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Lilburn man is facing reckless conduct charges following an April incident in which he accidentally shot a friend in the head, police said.
Gwinnett County police were dispatched to the Derden Circle home of 22-year-old Adam Davenport on April 12, finding the victim holding a bloody towel to his face, warrants said.
The victim told a responding officer that he was with Davenport at his home when they found a .380-caliber handgun in a desk drawer. Davenport reportedly "attempted to clear it two times and squeezed the trigger twice and the gun did not go off."
The third time was unfortunately the charm, warrants said, as the gun went off and a bullet struck the victim just above the left eye.
"Davenport told me that he did not intentionally point the gun at (the victim) but was just pointing it in the air in (the victim's) general direction," the responding officer wrote.
Warrants were issued Friday for Davenport's arrest on one charge of reckless conduct, almost two full months after the incident.
Jail records showed Davenport had not been arrested as of Monday evening.
