Vacant home destroyed by fire
DULUTH — A vacant Duluth home was destroyed by fire on Saturday, officials said. Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the “large abandoned residential structure” near the intersection of Boggs Road and Duluth Highway just before 10:30 p.m., finding it fully engulfed in flames, spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said. Using aerial hoses, crews controlled the blaze and kept the fire from spreading into the nearby commercial structure, Eberly said. No injuries were reported. Blaze causes moderate damage to house LAWRENCEVILLE — A late evening blaze caused moderate damage to a Lawrenceville home Saturday, officials said. Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the two-story home on the 1200 block of Bailing Drive just after 9 p.m., quickly knocking down the blaze producing heavy smoke conditions upon arrival, spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said. The family was alerted to the fire, which originated in a child’s bedroom, by a smoke detector, Eberly said. Officials determined the fire to be accidental.
