NORCROSS -- An Atlanta man who was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday after evading police was carrying several small bags of what appeared to be marijuana, according to a Gwinnett County police report.

Harry L. Thomas, 38, was driving a motorcycle on Lawrenceville Street in Norcross at a high rate of speed when he lost control on a curve in the road, the police report states. The motorcycle hit a bush and then a car parked at the Extended Stay America hotel.

Thomas was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene from injuries he sustained, the police report states.

Several minutes before the crash, Lilburn police attempted to pull Thomas over. He did not stop and may have been continuing to elude police when he crashed, the report states.

The incident was one of 15 fatal crashes reported to the Georgia State Patrol over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
