The Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus will present its "Spring Concert 2011" by regaling the glories of romance. "Love is in the Air" is the theme for the event, which will be held in the sanctuary of Mountain Park United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to the popular 55-man chorus, the program will include A Mighty Wind, one of the nation's most talented barbershop quartets. This group was a finalist in the 2010 International Convention and Competition and will represent the Dixie District of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Kansas City's International Competition this July.

"A Mighty Wind was formed in 2010, and was International Quartet Finalists for its very first performance," said Charlie Robinson, the Stone Mountain Chorus' Show Chairman.

"They also earned the highest qualifying score of any quartet in the Dixie District. They have an awesome sound and are very entertaining," Robinson said.

A Mighty Wind goes into the International Competition seeded No. 2 in the world. The foursome includes a member of a prior International Champion Quartet and one from a Collegiate International winner.

The program for "Love is in the Air" will include a wide variety of songs. "Embraceable You," "King of the Road," and "Blue Bayou" are on the program along with "Georgia" and more.

Besides A Mighty Wind, there will be three other quartets performing in showcased segments of the show. These are Up Front Quartet, Harmony Express Quartet, and Backdraft Quartet.

The program will end with "God Bless America." "This song is special to us as the program is so close to Memorial Day," Robinson said.

Tickets for the show are $12 in advance, with a $10 ticket in advance for full time students, seniors over 60 and groups of ten or more. All tickets at the door are $15, payable by cash or check only. For information about purchasing tickets in advance, call 770-978-8053 or visit www.stonemountainchorus.org.

Mountain Park United Methodist Church is located at 1405 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain.

The Stone Mountain Chorus, directed by Tom Brooks, is also the 2010 District Champion Chorus, and is looking for a few good men. In fact, they are holding a special event June 13 to invite interested singers to see and hear what their organization is all about.

This "Open House" will begin at 7 p.m. at Rehobeth Presbyterian Church located at 2729 Lawrenceville Highway.

"Even if you just sing in the shower or sing in the car, come on out and we can help teach you the craft," Robinson said.

The group is looking for singers for its 2011-12 season. Participants have the opportunity to join members of the chorus as they prepare for the Dixie District Fall Convention and Contest in September and the annual Fall Concert held at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth in November.

Those interested in this open house can find out more by calling 770-978-8053 or by visiting the website at www.stonemountainchorus.org.
