WINDER -- Lt. Randy Wells has been named the 2011 Winder Firefighter of the Year by the Winder Noon Lions Club.

The group announced Wednesday that Wells, who began with the department in 1994, would be given the honor for a second consecutive year. Wells became a full-time Winder firefighter in 1995, being promoted to driver engineer in 1996 and lieutenant in 1999.

Wells is also the department's safety officer and has been a mentor at Russell Middle School. He placed first on the 2011 captain promotional exam.
