Gwinnett Daily Post
Twenty eight years after his father was last an Atlanta Falcon, so is Thor Merrow.
The former Buford standout signed a rookie free-agent contract with his hometown team this week, joining a team his father Jeff played for from 1975 to 1983.
Fellow Gwinnett grad Rock Robinson also agreed to terms with an NFL team this week as the 6-foot-2, 220-pound rookie out of Hampton University signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The two signees join three other rookie free agent signees from Gwinnett -- Peachtree Ridge's Phillip Davis (San Francisco 49ers) and Dacula's Cole Brodie (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Cameron Kenney (San Diego Chargers). Peachtree Ridge's Cameron Heyward also is an NFL rookie, but was a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Merrow played at West Virginia, his father's alma mater, but finished his career at North Alabama. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder played defensive line and fullback during his career, signing with the Falcons at the latter position.
Robinson rushed for 914 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons at Hampton. The Collins Hill product played his first two seasons at Georgia Military College.
