DURHAM, N.C. -- The Gwinnett Braves gave starter Julio Teheran a three-run lead before he threw a pitch.
The right-hander responded with six one-run innings, allowing eight hits, but striking out nine.
And the offense didn't slow down.
After the three-run first, the G-Braves added one in the fifth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth to take a 9-3 win over the Durham Bulls and close within one game of the International League South Division leader.
Stefan Gartrell, Mauro Gomez and Brandon Hicks each knocked in a pair of runs. Wilkin Ramirez, added to the roster Tuesday after Atlanta optioned him to Class AAA, added an RBI double and scored a run on a 1-for-4 night.
Tyler Pastornicky and Ruben Gotay each had a pair of hits and Matt Young scored three runs and drew a pair of walks. Since his call-up from Class AA Mississippi last week, Pastornicky is hitting .413.
Teheran lowered his ERA to 1.67 and upped his record to an impressive 11-1 in his second consecutive win.
Prospect Arodys Vizcaino allowed one run in his first appearance in Class AAA and Jaye Chapman gave up a run in the eighth.
Vizcaino joined the G-Braves on Tuesday after compiling a 2-3 record and a 3.81 ERA in 11 appearances with Mississippi. The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic pitched in the Futures Game earlier this season.
Corey Gearrin struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Gwinnett takes on the Bulls tonight with lefty Mike Minor getting the start against Durham's fellow southpaw Matt Moore.
