LAWRENCEVILLE -- Bids have been unveiled for the upcoming transformation of Ga. Highway 316 in Lawrenceville.

The apparent low-bidder for the project, which will create interchanges at Collins Hill Road and Ga. Highway 20, is GPS Enterprises with a price tag of $37,395,727.79.

The bid bested Snellville-based E.R. Snell Contractor and three other companies, with $42.3 million as the maximum price.

According to transportation officials, the bids are under review. Leaders will decide in the next several weeks whether the bid will be awarded, rejected to be rebid or deferred for further review.

If the process moves forward, construction could begin in the fall.

"That's exciting," Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said of the bids being opened. "I cannot believe we are finally at this point."

The transformation will help myriad Gwinnett businesses and be a big boost for Georgia Gwinnett College, she added.

"Once that interchange is done, it's going to do a lot for safety," Nash said.
