WINDER -- Anyone hankering for a cop's-eye-view of police work in Winder is encouraged to act fast.
The city of Winder Police Department is accepting applications for the 16th session of the Citizen's Police Academy. The "C.P.A." is open to all, not just residents of Winder.
Space is limited to 25 seats and is expected to fill up fast, said Winder police spokesman Officer Chris Cooper.
The session begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Participants will meet each Thursday night thereafter at the Winder Police Department from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The session will conclude Dec. 15.
Cooper said participants will be involved in hands-on instruction with topics covering traffic stops, building clearing, firearms training, search and seizure, crime scene processing, community policing and more.
Interested residents must submit an application, which can be found at www.cityofwinder.com or picked up in person at Winder's police department. Applicants must consent to a criminal history check and a background check to be accepted.
For further information, call Officer Joey Lovinggood, Officer Brent Davis or Officer Tracy Wild at 770-867-2156. The City of Winder Police Department is located at 94 N. Broad St. in Winder.
