NORCROSS -- Police arrested a Loganville woman on drunk driving charges in a fatal, two-vehicle collision near Norcross on Thursday.
The head-on crash happened about 4:30 a.m. on Jimmy Carter Boulevard at Corley Road, Gwinnett police said.
Loganville resident Chanae Woodards, 21, was eastbound on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in a 1997 Honda CRV when she failed to negotiate a curve and swerved into the opposite lanes, said Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
Woodards' vehicle slammed into a 1997 Toyota Camry, driven by Frank Twum, 20, that was stopped to turn onto Corley Road. The front passenger in the Camry, Starkesha Magee, 24, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she later died, Ritter said.
Twum and another passenger in his vehicle, along with Woodards, were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. Woodards was arrested upon her release from North Fulton Hospital, police said.
Woodards is listed in jail and online records as an Albany State University student. She was released from the Gwinnett County Jail on $34,700 bond Thursday.
Her charges include DUI, failure to maintain lane and first-degree vehicular homicide.
