Students awarded shopping spree

On Tuesday, more than 100 local students will have the chance to visit an Atlanta area Target store to buy school supplies, clothing and other items in time for school, thanks to Target and Salvation Army.

Each child, selected by the Salvation Army, will be awarded an $80 gift card to buy supplies as well as a reusable bag to use on the shopping spree. They will be paired with a chaperone for their day of back-to-school shopping.

The Salvation Army has been supporting those in need since 1865.

Buford backpack drive planned

BUFORD -- St. Bernard Family Chiropractic has planned a backpack drive to help give to those in need in Gwinnett County.

The business will be collecting other various school supplies as well, distributing them across the county.

Donations can be dropped off at St. Bernard Family Chiropractic, 1400 Buford Highway, Suite D-3, Buford.

Music store opens in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Musical instrument retailer Music & Arts plans to open its store with a grand opening event July 30 at Lawrenceville Market Center.

With eight metro Atlanta locations, the store sells instruments as well as offering music lessons and instrument rentals and repairs.

Those who attend have a chance to win prizes from the store including tickets to Starfest, a Yamaha Home Theater System or one of five $100 Music & Arts shopping sprees.

The store showcases a new design concept, according to David Fuhr, vice president of retail.

"We're really thrilled to share this enhanced experience with the Lawrenceville musical community of all skill levels -- there's something for everyone."

The grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30 at 875 Suwanee Road, Suite 570, Lawrenceville.

Fans can meet G-Braves players at Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A restaurants of Gwinnett County are sponsoring the Gwinnett Braves and the "Eat Mor Fowl" poles at Coolray Field.

In honor of the sponsorship, the local restaurants are inviting residents to attend meet-and-greet sessions with certain Gwinnett Braves players from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 30.

Chick-fil-A guests are invited to attend the meet and greet for photo opportunities, autographs, Q-and-A with the players and a variety of activities at each location.

Said restaurant operator Steve Warnstrom: "The Gwinnett Braves are a treasure to this area. We are proud to sponsor this great organization and hope the community comes out to meet their favorite players."

Force cheerleader named to Arena dream team

NORCROSS -- A member of the 2011 Georgia Force Cheerleading Squad has been named to the Arena Football League Dream Team and will perform at ArenaBowl XXIV on Aug. 12.

Team co-captain Cheerleader Kiley was awarded the honor.

Said Force President Cory Howerton: "Having Kiley recognized in this way is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of this amazing group of ladies."

Kiley was selected from a group of 36 dancers after three months of fan voting. Each of AFL's 18 franchises has one representative on the Dream Team.

Kiley is a first year member and co-captain of the Georgia Force Cheerleaders. A graduate of Purdue University, she works with a ministry that serves families with cancer at seaside retreats.

Korean Heritage Day to be held Aug. 15 at Turner Field

ATLANTA -- The inaugural Korean Heritage Day at Turner Field is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 before the game against the San Francisco Giants.

The event, which commemorates the Independence Day of South Korea, includes a pre-game reception in the All-Star Party Room with hot dogs, burgers, soft drinks and water.

A $75 ticket package for Korean Heritage Day includes the reception, a souvenir, Braves club level ticket and a $10 food or beverage coupon.
