Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony call it quits
NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s marriage has hit a sour note: The superstar couple announced Friday they are breaking up.
The two married in 2004 and have 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
In a Friday statement to The Associated Press from Lopez’s publicist, the pair called the decision to end their marriage a ‘‘very difficult decision.’’
It’s Lopez’s third marriage, Anthony’s second.
Sculpture of Marilyn unveiled in Chicago
CHICAGO — Marilyn Monroe’s billowing skirt shows it’s possible to catch a nice breeze in the Windy City.
As dozens of people watched Friday, a 26-foot-tall sculpture of Monroe in her famous pose from the ‘‘The Seven Year Itch’’ was unveiled on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. In the movie, a draft catches Monroe’s dress as she passes over a subway grate.
Many in the crowd that descended on the plaza throughout the day — including a tuxedo-clad wedding party — wasted little time positioning themselves under the movie star’s dress to catch a subway-level view and take pictures with their cellphone cameras. Not that Monroe, her eyes closed and a sublime smile on her face, seemed to notice.
‘Potter’ sets midnight box office record
LOS ANGELES — Harry Potter still has that magic touch — even before dawn.
‘‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,’’ the final film in the successful Warner Bros. boy wizard franchise, conjured up $43.5 million from midnight shows Friday, according to studio estimates.
It beat the previous midnight record set last summer by ‘‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,’’ which earned around $30 million for its midnight screenings.
With the addition of 3-D, ‘‘Part 2’’ could end the franchise’s spellbinding 10-year story with a total weekend debut approaching $150 million. That would surpass the $125 million opening last November of the first ‘‘Deathly Hallows’’ installment. The current debut weekend record is $158 million set by ‘‘The Dark Knight’’ in 2008.
