LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Stone Mountain man charged in connection with a fatal April drug deal is scheduled to face trial for felony murder this week.
Tommy Tyrone Griffin is charged with felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to traffic cocaine in connection with an incident at the Sinclair Apartments in Norcross, where "two groups (came) together for a drug deal when it went south and both sides exchanged gunfire," Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorney Robby King said.
Griffin was shot in the stomach himself during the encounter and another man was shot in the foot, King said. Yet another gunshot, allegedly fired by Griffin, proved fatal.
"A Hispanic male was shot in the face and died," King said.
Seven stray bullets reportedly entered a neighboring apartment, striking the sofa that a resident was sitting on.
According to arrest warrants, the alleged drug deal involved $4,000 worth of cocaine.
King, who is prosecuting the case, said he anticipated beginning with jury selection Monday, and that "the case should be over by Friday."
