Stefan Gartrell might be trying to make his game more than just that of a power hitter, but he still knows how to blast a home run.
And with 16 on the season entering Thursday, the Gwinnett Braves outfielder was selected as one of the three International League's participants in the Triple-A All-Star Game's Home Run Derby.
The Derby is Monday at 9 p.m. at Salt Lake City's Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Gartrell, one of four Gwinnett Braves players on the IL's All-Star roster, was traded to the G-Braves from Charlotte earlier this season. Along with home runs, Gartrell also leads the G-Braves with 23 doubles, is second with 54 RBIs.
Joining Gartrell from the IL in the Derby is Charlotte Knight Dayan Viciedo, who has 15 home runs on the season and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Jorge Vazquez, the IL leader with 20 homers.
The three from the Pacific Coast League, traditionally a power-friendly league, are Iowa's Bryan LaHair with 24, Albuquerque's Trayvon Robinson with 20 and host Salt Lake's Jeff Baisley with 17.
The Triple-A All-Star Game is Wednesday at 9 p.m. and will air on MLB Network.
