LAWRENCEVILLE -- A fire reported by a passerby at 6 a.m. Thursday destroyed a vacant home on New Hope Road near Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, officials said.
Firefighters found the single-story, wood-frame house fully involved on arrival. The owner told authorities the house wasn't occupied at the time of the fire, and an exact cause is under investigation, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
The structure is consider a total loss. Parts of New Hope Road from Sugarloaf Parkway north were closed due to fire equipment in the roadway, Rutledge said.
