G-Braves right fielder and DH Stefan Gartrell got a little "take that" news today whilst in Charlotte playing against his former team, the Knights.
Gartrell, already a member of the 2010 International League All-Star team contingent headed to Salt Lake City next week, was announced today as one of the IL's three members to partake in the home run derby.
The derby is Monday at 9 p.m. at the Bees' Spring Mobile Park.
Read this for some more info on Gartrell, who was traded to the G-Braves earlier this season. With 16 home runs already, 15 with Gwinnett, Gartrell is four G-Braves' home runs away from setting a team record for homers in a season. Freddie Freeman holds the team record with 18 home runs last year.
Joining Gartrell from the IL in the home run derby is Charlotte Knight (White Sox) Dayan Viciedo who has 15 home runs on the season and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's (Yankees) Jorge Vazquez, the IL leader with 20 homers.
The three from the Pacific Coast League, traditionally a power-friendly league, are Iowa's (Cubs) Bryan LaHair with 24, Albuquerque's (Dodgers) Trayvon Robinson with 20 and Salt Lake's (Angels) Jeff Baisley with 17.
