FORT MILL, S.C. -- Starter Julio Teheran only lasted five innings, but the rested Gwinnett Braves bullpen turned in four one-hit shutout innings to give Gwinnett a 4-1 win over Charlotte on Wednesday night.
Anthony Varvaro, Dustin Richardson, Juan Abreu and Jair Asencio combined for five strikeouts and just two walks in relief of the lefty Teheran and Gwinnett hit a pair of home runs in the game. Teheran allowed one run off five hits and struck out seven over his five innings, but could did not pick up the win. Gwinnett scored one run in the second and broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh on Brandon Hicks' 14th home run of the season. The G-Braves added two more in the ninth.
Chris Carter went 2-for-4 with a home run and catcher J.C. Boscan upped his average to .204 on a 2-for-4 night with an RBI. Gwinnett wraps up its two games in Charlotte tonight at 7 p.m.
