Gwinnett Daily Post
Of Georgia’s 102 inmates on death row, three were prosecuted in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit — Michael Nance, Joaquin Arevalo and the state’s only female death row inmate, Kelly Gissendaner, said Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter.
In March 2002, Tracy Housel died by lethal injection for killing a Lawrenceville woman in 1985, the first Gwinnett convict to be put to death since 1951. The only other modern-era execution stemming from a Gwinnett conviction came in November 2003, when the state executed James Willie Brown for the 1975 rape and murder of an Atlanta go-go dancer. Prior to Housel, four men convicted of crimes in Gwinnett had been put to death by the state, either by hanging or electrocution, according to historical records. There are two pending death-penalty cases in Gwinnett. They involve murder suspect Khahn Dinh Phan (accused of fatally shooting a Lilburn boy, 2, and his father in 2004) and 2009 quadruple-homicide suspect Richard Ringold, Porter said.More like this story
