SUWANEE — Families will have to wait a while longer to find out the dates of two more school makeup days.
Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks told the school board Thursday he plans to have students make up all five days they missed the week of Jan. 10 when icy conditions created hazardous road conditions.
Three makeup dates were already built into the school calendar — Feb. 21, March 14 and May 26.
Wilbanks said district officials haven’t yet decided when the other two days will be made up, but he said a decision will be made by March 15.
The reason the school system hasn’t decided on the dates is because it’s possible students may miss more days of school this winter because of snow, Wilbanks said.
“I don’t know what the next month holds,” he said.
As spring nears and the possibility of snow decreases, district officials will select the makeup days.
A school year is supposed to be 180 days long. In emergency situations, however, the state Board of Education allows school districts to miss up to four days of school without making them up.
