BUFORD — Two men attending a wedding at Mall of Georgia’s convention center were held up in the parking lot by an armed man and his accomplice last weekend, police said.
Two would-be robbers approached the men about 11:30 p.m., but left when it became apparent they had nothing on them to fork over, according to a Gwinnett police report released Wednesday.
The victims, both age 36, are from Atlanta and Destin, Fla. They told police they went to retrieve something from a vehicle in the parking lot when two black men ran toward them. One suspect held a gun and said, “Give me some money,” while the other hung back, both men reported.
Police reviewed video surveillance at the mall that showed the robbers running across the parking lot and Mall of Georgia Boulevard toward the Reserve at Ivy Creek apartments, the report states.
The gunman was described as about 6 feet tall, wearing a light blue sweatshirt with a zipper and black hat; the other man was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and donned dark clothing. Both were skinny, the report states.
A responding officer pulled over a man in a Honda Civic matching the description. He was let go, however, when neither victim could say definitively that he was involved, the report states.
An investigation continues.
