Norcross’ Cameron Williams has signed a letter of intent to play college tennis for the Georgia Southern women’s program.
Williams, a four-year varsity player for the Blue Devils, was an All-Region 7-AAAAA and Daily Post Super Six selection last season. She has been ranked as high as 218th nationally, as well as 15th in Georgia and 68th in the Southern Region.
Shanteau stars at Austin Grand Prix
Former Parkview swimmer Eric Shanteau had a strong showing at this past weekend’s Austin Grand Prix, taking first in two events and second in another.
The 2008 Olympian won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.35 seconds as well as the 200 breast in 2:12.12. He also was runner-up in the 200 individual medley (1:59.26).
Archer hoops games rescheduled
Archer has rescheduled its two basketball games that were postponed last week because of the winter weather. The Tigers will host Grayson in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. (varsity girls), with the varsity boys to follow.
Archer also scheduled the Dacula make-up games for Jan. 29 at Dacula, though the times have not been set.
GAC’s Brogdon has record-breaking tourney
Greater Atlanta Christian’s Malcolm Brogdon set rebounding records at the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions and amassed the third-highest scoring total ever at the 27th-annual event in Springfield, Mo., last week.
The 6-foot-4 Virginia signee had a tourney-record 21 rebounds in the Spartans’ second game and set the three-game mark with 48. He also scored a 2011 tourney-best 95 points with games of 27, 38 and 30.
The defending Class AA state champions lost their first two games, but won on Saturday to take seventh place.
GAC will make up its road varsity basketball games against Decatur on Wednesday, with the varsity girls at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity boys to follow. The games were wiped out last week by the weather.
