NORCROSS — A fire in a vacant apartment caused authorities to evacuate nearby residents from their homes Saturday morning.
The blaze was reported about 9:50 a.m. Saturday at 100 Castor Drive in Norcross, said Capt. Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the ground floor apartment, Rutledge said. Crews made immediate entry and extinguished a small fire. The fire was contained to the single unit. The entire building was initially evacuated as a precautionary measure, but residents were allowed to return to their homes, Rutledge said. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined under investigation.More like this story
