The Brookwood-South Gwinnett basketball games scheduled for Tuesday but wiped out by the winter weather have been moved to Saturday, Jan. 29. The varsity games will be played at Brookwood as originally scheduled, with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.
Georgia Dugout Club to host youth coaching clinic
The Georgia Dugout Club, with the help of local high school coaches, will host a free youth baseball coaching clinic Saturday, Jan. 29, at Loganville High School. The event begins at 9 a.m. and features sessions on outfield play, infield play, defensive practice plans, pitching, catching, hitting and offensive practice plans.
The coaching staffs of Grayson, Brookwood, South Gwinnett, Parkview, Loganville, Salem and Georgia Select will run the clinic. Coaches must register online for the event at www.georgiadugoutclub.com.
Parkview wins Comcast prize for most viewers
Parkview received a $500, as did Stephenson, for having the most-watched episode of Comcast’s On Demand coverage of high school football. The two schools played an overtime game to start the season.
Braves host Phils in Civil Rights Game
NEW YORK — The Atlanta Braves will host the Philadelphia Phillies on May 15 in the fifth annual Civil Rights Game.
Major League Baseball made the announcement Thursday. The game at Turner Field will cap four days of events that highlight civil rights history in Atlanta and all over the country.
Braves Hall of Famer Hank Aaron will be honored with a red carpet tribute. All net proceeds from that celebration will be donated to a foundation named in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Raptors sign guard Gaines for 10 days
TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors have signed Sundiata Gaines to a 10-day contract.
The 6-foot-1 guard played in college at Georgia and has spent time in the NBA with Minnesota and Utah. He also spent time with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA’s development league last season.
Gaines was released by the Timberwolves on Jan. 4. In eight games, he had 21 points, six assists and 65 minutes. He played in 32 games with Utah last season, averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 assists and 6.8 minutes.
