Tight budgets in 2011 aren’t just affecting government services.

This year, U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson is tightening his own belt, reorganizing his district offices to consolidate resources and streamline constituent services.

Johnson, whose district includes parts of Norcross and Lilburn, closed his Tucker office during the Christmas holidays. Calls and constituent services are being directed to the main office in Lithonia. The phone number there is 770-987-2291.

The congressman is looking into the possibility of a satellite office in the Tucker area, similar to the Rockdale County office he has at Conyers City Hall.

“Providing excellent constituent services will remain at the core of our mission,” Johnson said. “This consolidation will streamline our offices and save taxpayers’ money but without sacrificing service. We are committed to being good stewards of taxpayers’ resources, and we are making cuts to our budget just like everyone else.”

Rob Woodall, who will be sworn into Congress next week, alongside Johnson and others, is expected to keep the offices maintained by his predecessor John Linder at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.
