NORCROSS — A Lilburn man is now in custody after police say he shot the boyfriend of his estranged wife in the back, less than 48 hours after being released from jail after violating his probation.
Maxwell Nyetrae is facing aggravated assault, aggravated battery and weapons charges for shooting the man in the parking lot of a Norcross apartment complex at about 1:30 a.m. Monday, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said. The victim was visiting his girlfriend — Nyetrae’s wife — that night, when he left her apartment at 1355 Tree Trail Parkway and went out to his vehicle, finding a flat tire, Smith said. When he began to fix the tire, Nyetrae reportedly approached him with a handgun and shot him. Police were able to detain Nyetrae at his Birdlake Drive home later Monday, Smith said. The victim, Travis Cox, remains in critical condition. Jail records show Nyetrae was arrested on aggravated stalking charges involving his wife in November before being booked more recently for a probation violation.More like this story
