LAWRENCEVILLE — Thanks to donations from two of Gwinnett’s premier cardiology groups, all Gwinnett County ambulances will soon be equipped with advanced technology helping better treat those in need of emergency care.

Gwinnett County’s Board of Commissioners honored Tuesday night Cardiovascular Group, P.C. and Gwinnett Consultants in Cardiology, whose contributions will completely fund the LifeNet system.

The system allows EMS crews to transmit “highly detailed cardiovascular data” to hospital emergency departments, which can then be forwarded directly to a mobile device of the appropriate physician.

“The LifeNet system will be a tremendous resource for GMC and the physicians who serve this community,” said Dr. Manfred Sandler of Cardiovascular Group. “More importantly, it will be a major benefit to Gwinnett residents needing emergency cardiac care.”

Cardiovascular Group and Gwinnett Consultants in Cardiology will staff Gwinnett Medical Center’s new Heart and Vascular Center, which is under construction and scheduled to open in early 2012.

“LifeNet will expedite diagnostic times, allowing for quicker treatment upon arrival at GMC,” said Dr. Searle Videlefsky of Gwinnett Consultants in Cardiology. “The sooner clinicians can address a cardiac patient’s needs, the greater the chance of survival and improved recovery.”
